Discussion of Sands Report Card and Ohio Achievement Test for 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Report serves mostly as a political tool for elected officials. The testing doesn’t necessarily reflect all the facets of education at Sands. However, the report can be used to identify areas for additional resources or efforts to figure out changes to be implemented to help in areas not meeting goals. Sands is rated effective, but had three sub-groups below state mandated goals.
New school update provided by Principal Swegman. Construction is on schedule. Principal meets weekly with construction managers to stay informed of schedule. Parents invited to tour new school at SMPO meeting Sept. 17. Old school to be demolished in summer of 2010 prior to new school opening; then final driveway and parking areas to be completed before school opens in August.
Issue raised by parent rep- Wes Munzel- about length of “eating time” for lunch- as several parents had indicated to him that their kids have mentioned that they don’t have enough time to eat, especially for those standing in the hot lunch line. These parents all thought the 20 minutes currently allotted for “eating time” was not adequate. Principal Swegman indicated that changing the lunch schedule would require changing the master schedule by reducing time allotted for “specials” and or the “outdoor time” portion of the lunch bell.
Tonia Carreon was confirmed as an ILT representative by the three parent reps.
Adjournment.
